Anxiety

Oftentimes, symptoms of anxiety start small and seem manageable. However, if seemingly small symptoms of anxiety aren’t properly addressed, they can continue to impact your daily life and may even compound into more significant issues. Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and anxious day after day takes a toll on our mental and physical well-being, and is a sign that seeking help from professional may be the key to helping your anxiety.
Depression

Depression

Depression can feel big and overwhelming – like the world is weighing you down and it feels nearly impossible to tackle your daily responsibilities. Depression can also feel like a dull, subtle rain cloud looming over your head. Depression looks and feels many different ways, but one thing is for certain – it does not feel good. If you are feeling down, low energy, have lost interest in activities you used to enjoy, or are flooded with negative thoughts, you might be experiencing a depressive episode.

Young Adult Therapy

Do you worry that you’re falling behind your peers? Are you losing interest in activities that you used to enjoy? Maybe you’ve recently graduated from college and you’re filled with uncertainty as you try to start your career, or you’re having trouble navigating social and romantic relationships. Lots of young adults feel pressure to reach certain milestones by their 20s or early 30s. If the early years of adulthood have been harder than you anticipated, you might ask yourself: will my life ever be fulfilling? Will I ever achieve my hopes and dreams?

Couples Therapy

A desire to deepen your connection with your partner and/or heal a breakdown in connection or communication can feel lonely, unsettling, or even scary. I am here to listen and guide you through current and past challenges to move toward a stronger, more bonded relationship. My approach is direct, supportive, and action-oriented, focused on identifying negative cycles and developing connection through emotional intimacy and communication. I will guide you through resolving current issues and healing from past challenges to move toward a stronger, more bonded relationship.

Therapy For Creative Professionals

Being a creative professional or “gig worker” in New York can be very challenging. People in creative and gig work often struggle with feelings of isolation, inconsistency, or feeling that they have to define their “real job” to people in your life that are not in the industry. Therapy can help provide you with the tools you need to neutralize the instability and insecurity associated with having a creative or “gig” profession. This is not something that everyone will understand and those feelings of being misunderstood are valid. This is very intimate work; there cannot be growth without a stable foundation of trust in place between client and therapist.

Grief Counseling

Grief is a deeply personal journey, marked by the ebb and flow of emotions as individuals navigate the stages of grief. Grief therapy, also known as bereavement counseling, is a specialized form of therapy focused on helping individuals cope with the emotional, psychological, and spiritual impact of loss. Trained grief therapists provide a safe and nurturing environment where clients can express their grief openly, without fear of judgment or criticism. Through compassionate listening, empathetic support, and evidence-based interventions, grief therapy helps individuals navigate the complex terrain of grief and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of loss.

Family Therapy

Do you feel like it’s impossible for your family to have an honest conversation without arguing? Is your family trying to deal with a difficult life transition? Are you worried that a stressful household environment is affecting your children’s wellbeing? Perhaps you’ve been going through tumultuous changes as a family, and now, your household lacks a sense of stability. You might feel emotionally drained from trying to resolve family conflict.

Teen Therapy

Have you and your teen been fighting constantly? Do you feel like your teen disrespects you when you try to enforce reasonable rules? Are you trying to mend your relationship without much success? You may be exhausted from arguing with your teen on such a frequent basis. You know that your teen is learning to become more independent, yet you also want to set fair ground rules, and you’re unsure of how to strike a balance.

Executive Function Coaching

Do you have trouble setting a morning routine or making it to work on time? Is it hard just to get started on assignments or meet deadlines at work? Perhaps you have a child struggling with similar issues. For example, your child or teen might resist doing their homework, and it may be a challenge just to get them out the door for school in the morning. You might feel embarrassed or frustrated about your lack of organizational skills, but no matter how hard you try, staying on top of all of your responsibilities feels impossible.

Maternal Mental Health

Whether you’re planning for a baby, coping with loss, or adjusting to parenthood, the intrinsic biological, chemical, and social changes of these life moments can be overwhelming. In our work together, we’ll explore your connection to self, what holds you back from meeting your physical and emotional needs, and how to tap into a calmer state. We meet you where you are, work with you to realign our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings with your truest self, and guide you to strengthen your resilience.

Addiction Therapy

Whether it’s substance abuse, gambling, or other addictive behaviors, therapy offers a path to recovery and healing. Specialized addiction therapy provides personalized support, guidance, and tools to help individuals break free from the grip of addiction and reclaim their lives. By serving as a step-down option from more intensive forms of addiction therapy, private practice therapy helps individuals transition smoothly back into their daily lives while providing the ongoing support needed to sustain long-term sobriety and well-being. Our therapists offer a more flexible and personalized approach to addiction treatment, tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. Unlike the highly structured nature of inpatient or outpatient programs, our services allow for greater autonomy and independence in setting treatment goals and pacing recovery progress.

Twin Therapy

Being a twin is a specific and unique experience. While the privileges are often highlighted in the media, few consider the inherent challenges of twinship and the specific emotional needs of being a twin. Similarly, as a parent, no matter the age of your twins, challenges regularly arise that are unique to the twin-parent experience. Personal experience combined with years of studying the psychology of twins and twin parenting is the unique lens from which our therapists will guide you. Whether you are looking to explore the stress and challenges of your life in the here and now or investigate how your upbringing impacts your present from an individual and twinship lens, we are here to guide you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer: Absolutely! If you are attending weekly individual therapy sessions, and you feel that it would be beneficial to invite an important person in your life to one or more sessions, we are happy to accommodate this request. Should this person decide to seek therapy for themselves in the future, we can refer them to another clinician to avoid conflicts of interest.

Like most specialty therapeutic providers, we don’t work directly with insurance, however we do provide a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement directly to you, based on your out of network coverage.

If you are interested in finding out more about your out of network benefits, we recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking the following questions:

1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health services?
2. Is there a deductible that needs to be met before I can start getting reimbursed?
3. How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
4. What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
5. How do I submit out-of-network benefits claims?
6. Do I need prior authorization for out-patient mental health services?

We believe cost should not be a barrier to receiving quality therapeutic care, and so all of our therapists also offer low-fee therapy, some starting at $50 per session, based on need and availability. Please reach out to us to learn more about this option.

Your healing timeline is deeply personal. Depending on your goals and preferences, you may want to continue with therapy for a few months to a few years. However, most clients feel a sense of relief after their first session! We typically see clients on a weekly basis and shift to bi-weekly check-ins when they begin making significant progress towards their goals. You’re free to stop sessions when you feel it’s appropriate, and you can always return to therapy in the future if you need additional support.

We have extensive availability every day of the week, and in order to make therapy more convenient and accessible for our clients, we offer both virtual and in-person sessions. Although we do not take insurance, we do offer a sliding scale fee program, which keeps costs affordable for our clients. We are also connected to a large network of mental healthcare providers in New York State, and we can refer you to another therapist if our practice does not meet your needs.

During sessions, we will discuss what has been going well for you as well as what has gotten in the way recently. We examine the skills you’re using to tackle issues and how they are helping you achieve your goals. Our therapists have a client-centered and reality based approach, so we discuss how your behavior is moving you closer to your desired outcomes, and consider how specific changes may benefit or slow your progress. If clients prefers a more direct therapeutic approach, we utilize skills found in mindfulness and CBT such as cognitive restructuring, debunking unhelpful thoughts, and drafting responses to negative self-talk. Our therapists draw from several different modalities and serve our clients in whatever works best for them. In sessions, we also anticipate upcoming challenges and work together to propose strategies that will help you navigate these obstacles with strength, tranquility and success. Using your goals, we create a treatment plan that works for you. We also offer ideas of strategies to try outside of therapy to integrate the work we do faster.

When we are feeling anxious, we are not present in the moment and are often out of touch with the people and events that are most meaningful to us. Unhelpful thought patterns, negative self-talk, and “doom spirals” can be all-consuming and cause us to miss out on what we truly enjoy in life. It can be scary, overwhelming, and feel impossible to tackle. However, a wonderful thing about the human brain is that we can re-train it to work in more helpful and productive ways that enhance our lives rather than drain our days. Because we are not taught how to rewire our thought patterns from a young age, this work often requires some professional direction in order to make long-lasting change. That’s where a therapist comes in! Therapists are professionally trained to help people manage and correct how their minds are helping (or hindering) their quality of life. Once we learn how to become aware and change negative thought patterns, we can fully live without being held back by anxious thoughts and feelings.

It can be difficult to discuss anxiety. However, our clients repeatedly share how relieved they feel, even after the first session! Sometimes, just talking about something that seems all consuming helps make it more manageable. Debunking the critical thoughts you may have of yourself, your anxiety, and therapy in general can help you feel more hopeful and open to change. If what you’re doing now isn’t working, why not try something different that has worked for millions of people?

It can be difficult to find a therapist because it is hard to know where to start. We always encourage people to trust their intuition. If you feel any sense of connection while reading this, contact us now. In our experience, the most difficult part is that first call to a therapist, and we have found that most people discover over the course of our first conversation whether we are a good fit. Research has shown that what makes therapy most effective is the connection you feel with your therapist. We look forward to connecting with you and helping you achieve a more peaceful life.

Confidentiality is foundational in a trustworthy therapeutic relationship, and we ask that parents respect this principle when we are working with clients who are 13 and older. During our initial session, we explain to teenage clients that everything they share in therapy will remain confidential unless the therapist has any safety concerns. Should they share something that the therapist feels the need to discuss with their parents, the therapist will inform the teenage client before disclosing the details to their parents.

While we provide more frequent progress updates to parents of clients under the age of 13, we do not share private details from our sessions with the exception of safety concerns.
