Answer: Absolutely! If you are attending weekly individual therapy sessions, and you feel that it would be beneficial to invite an important person in your life to one or more sessions, we are happy to accommodate this request. Should this person decide to seek therapy for themselves in the future, we can refer them to another clinician to avoid conflicts of interest.

Like most specialty therapeutic providers, we don’t work directly with insurance, however we do provide a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement directly to you, based on your out of network coverage.

If you are interested in finding out more about your out of network benefits, we recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking the following questions:

1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health services?
2. Is there a deductible that needs to be met before I can start getting reimbursed?
3. How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
4. What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
5. How do I submit out-of-network benefits claims?
6. Do I need prior authorization for out-patient mental health services?

We believe cost should not be a barrier to receiving quality therapeutic care, and so all of our therapists also offer low-fee therapy, some starting at $50 per session, based on need and availability. Please reach out to us to learn more about this option.

Your healing timeline is deeply personal. Depending on your goals and preferences, you may want to continue with therapy for a few months to a few years. However, most clients feel a sense of relief after their first session! We typically see clients on a weekly basis and shift to bi-weekly check-ins when they begin making significant progress towards their goals. You’re free to stop sessions when you feel it’s appropriate, and you can always return to therapy in the future if you need additional support.

We have extensive availability every day of the week, and in order to make therapy more convenient and accessible for our clients, we offer both virtual and in-person sessions. Although we do not take insurance, we do offer a sliding scale fee program, which keeps costs affordable for our clients. We are also connected to a large network of mental healthcare providers in New York State, and we can refer you to another therapist if our practice does not meet your needs.

During sessions, we will discuss what has been going well for you as well as what has gotten in the way recently. We examine the skills you’re using to tackle issues and how they are helping you achieve your goals. Our therapists have a client-centered and reality based approach, so we discuss how your behavior is moving you closer to your desired outcomes, and consider how specific changes may benefit or slow your progress. If clients prefers a more direct therapeutic approach, we utilize skills found in mindfulness and CBT such as cognitive restructuring, debunking unhelpful thoughts, and drafting responses to negative self-talk. Our therapists draw from several different modalities and serve our clients in whatever works best for them. In sessions, we also anticipate upcoming challenges and work together to propose strategies that will help you navigate these obstacles with strength, tranquility and success. Using your goals, we create a treatment plan that works for you. We also offer ideas of strategies to try outside of therapy to integrate the work we do faster.

When we are feeling anxious, we are not present in the moment and are often out of touch with the people and events that are most meaningful to us. Unhelpful thought patterns, negative self-talk, and “doom spirals” can be all-consuming and cause us to miss out on what we truly enjoy in life. It can be scary, overwhelming, and feel impossible to tackle. However, a wonderful thing about the human brain is that we can re-train it to work in more helpful and productive ways that enhance our lives rather than drain our days. Because we are not taught how to rewire our thought patterns from a young age, this work often requires some professional direction in order to make long-lasting change. That’s where a therapist comes in! Therapists are professionally trained to help people manage and correct how their minds are helping (or hindering) their quality of life. Once we learn how to become aware and change negative thought patterns, we can fully live without being held back by anxious thoughts and feelings.

It can be difficult to discuss anxiety. However, our clients repeatedly share how relieved they feel, even after the first session! Sometimes, just talking about something that seems all consuming helps make it more manageable. Debunking the critical thoughts you may have of yourself, your anxiety, and therapy in general can help you feel more hopeful and open to change. Confidentiality is foundational in a trustworthy therapeutic relationship, and we ask that parents respect this principle when we are working with clients who are 13 and older. During our initial session, we explain to teenage clients that everything they share in therapy will remain confidential unless the therapist has any safety concerns. Should they share something that the therapist feels the need to discuss with their parents, the therapist will inform the teenage client before disclosing the details to their parents.

While we provide more frequent progress updates to parents of clients under the age of 13, we do not share private details from our sessions with the exception of safety concerns.
